Hiawatha Homes Inc 2009
Reflections from the Hiawatha Homes, Inc.Board President
Dear Friends, As we reflect on 2008, the Hiawatha Homes, Inc. Board of Directors recognizes the many significant efforts that support our mission of serving individuals with disabilities – our employees, our many volunteers, our contributors, and our communities. The commitment of all of our supporters has allowed Hiawatha Homes to position itself to continue to offer the highest level of support while improving operations and efficiencies for the long term. I am particularly proud of our staff and management team who continue to seek ways of doing things differently and embrace the many changes we have and will continue to see. While diligently adapting to the changing economic environment, Hiawatha Homes, Inc. is committed to its strategic plan of increasing services to individuals and families. We’ve expanded our services to include a home to support individuals with traumatic brain injury – providing opportunities that specifically meet their needs. In addition, the Board is committed to expanding respite care services for our families. The need is great and Hiawatha Homes, Inc. will continue to explore opportunities to fill this need. During the next year, the Board will seek new ways to expand and improve services to our families and communities while engaging our employees and being good stewards of our resources. Thank you again for your support, Michelle Pyfferoen Board of Directors President Hiawatha Homes, Inc. |
Hiawatha Homes Foundation 2009
Reflections from the Hiawatha Homes Foundation Board PresidentDear Friends, Wow! It is hard to believe that it has been 33 years since Hiawatha Homes opened its doors to provide support and service to people with developmental disabilities in Rochester and the surrounding area. It does not seem that long ago that the dream of a group of parents to provide a new home type setting for their children and others arose from the apple orchards of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Assisi Heights. Hiawatha Homes was blessed with a remarkable 2008. The public support of our annual Festival of Trees, as well as all donations, was truly phenomenal. Because of your continued generosity, we were able to expand our services for those with acquired brain injury by opening StoneBridge home. Hiawatha Homes was also able to upgrade and remodel several bathrooms for increased accessibility for the people we support. As we move forward in 2009, we at Hiawatha understand the difficult times we all now face. Our excellent staff continues to look for ways to provide more efficient and cost effective service to our clients. We are confident that with your generous ongoing support, 2009 will be as successful as 2008 for the people we support and our staff. Forty-two years ago a person came into my life that has truly made a difference in who I am. My brother, Dan is developmentally disabled and has been part of the Hiawatha family since the day the original Children’s Home was opened on July 1976. I know that my family feels truly blessed that Dan is able to live independently in such a caring and giving community as Rochester. On behalf of Dan and all of the Hiawatha family, we thank you so very much for all that you do! With warmest regards, David J. Ellingson Board of Directors President Hiawatha Homes Foundation
