In 1976, Hiawatha Homes became a 501(c)3 and opened a state of the art program that provided a safe, “children first” environment where children with disabilities would receive quality, loving care. Both long term care and short term respite support were offered to families. In the years to come, the children grew and so did their needs. Residential homes were built, to promote independence and community inclusion. Today, over 130 individuals benefit from Hiawatha's residential, in home and community-based programs.
